Franke: unfortunately only an acute crisis will push the majority of the population to act. A release of a report will only have an impact on the better informed minority.

AdamP: If by "higher relative standard of living" you mean being able to eat one meal a day, then I guess it is a reason for which people move. But they are hardly thinking of profits, only hunger.
An example of a crisis-induced migration is the thousands of Mexican farmers migrating north because their government has decided to cut their support when the U.S. government continues to sustain its farmers. Or the establishment of industrial cities in China that pay mere cents a day attracting millions from rural areas.

Wait a second...
How does moving for profitability constitute a "crisis-induced migration"?
Don't people move for a higher relative standard of living?
If not, then what economic force makes them voluntarily move?

[...] Since I posted my own comentary about the IPCC report about a month ago, in the spirit of facing the critics I wanted to give some space to the arguments being used by Reisman to discredit this global initiative. [...]

[...] With an Oscar for best Documentary Feature, a partnership with Microsoft for the online broadcasting of the Live Earth event, a roster of celebrities signing up to participate in the concerts, it is obvious that Mr. Gore knows very well how to leverage global culture to deliver the message of climate crisis, explained in the previous post global warming. In any case, by using new media, he is targeting the global audience that is directly associated with the most important abuses against the environment as a result of our lifestyles.
Hi -- thanks for posting about my visual essay on climate change. May I correct one point? The main question I am debating is the economist Steven Levitt's assertion that Global Warming will be good for Canada.

To be very clear -- I do NOT believe that Global Warming will be good for Canada. And I agree with you that (unfortunately) things will have to get a lot worse before people pay attention and change their lifestyles.
